YOUR ONE STOP GUIDE TO JUMEIRA

  Jumeira

On the Bur Dubai side of the city, stretching south for about 1o km along the coast from Satwa's borders towards Umm Suqeim, is Jumeira. In English, it translates as `burning embers'. Once a fishing village, it is now a highly desirable residential area hence the popular expression `Jumeira Jane', referring to the stereotypical well heeled female resident of this district.

There are lots of medical practices catering to the needs of the population along the two main roads in the district - Jumeira Beach Road (also known as the Beach Road) and AI Wasl Road. Jumeira Beach Road is fast becoming a shopping mall alley, along with exclusive beauty salons, several flower shops and numerous cafes restaurants.

The Jumeira Mosque, located at the beginning of the Beach Road, is easily the most beautiful mosque in the city, as well as the best known (it features on the Dhs.5oo bank note) and is especially breathtaking at night when lit up.

Between AI Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road is the 51. hectare oasis of Safa Park. Facilities here include a big wheel, various games pitches and plenty of barbecue sites. The tennis courts are generally busy and it's a popular place in the early evening with joggers who trot around the perimeter, which features a sprung running started on a 7.2 hectare neighbourhood park with games courts, elevated walkways, jogging track, and a central fountain with shaded seating, to cater to the recreational needs of local residents.
